Preventive Care Q & A

Advanced Smiles Dental, P.A.

What is preventive care?

Preventive care is treatment designed to reduce the risk of oral health problems including tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer and other issues. For more information, please call Advanced Smiles Dental P.A. for an appointment.

How does preventive care benefit the patient?

Preventive care protects the patient’s oral health throughout their life. By engaging in regular preventive care, the patient ensures that their oral health is sound. Studies show that poor oral health may be connected to general health problems, including chronic illnesses. By protecting their oral health, patients may improve their overall health.

In addition to improving oral health, preventive care saves the patient money. Some dental issues such as severe decay and tooth infection are expensive to fix. Preventive care identifies these issues early, allowing the patient to repair them before an expensive procedure is necessary.

How does preventive care work?

Preventive care consists of treatments and assessments that reduce the risk of dental health issues. This can include regular dental checkups, regular teeth cleanings, x-rays and oral cancer screenings. During checkups, Dr. Laubach or Dr. Eivens looks for signs of existing problems such as cavities, infected teeth and gum disease. The doctors also screen the patient for signs of oral cancer. During teeth cleanings, a dental hygienist removes tartar and plaque from teeth, helping prevent decay and damage.

When is preventive care necessary?

Advanced Smiles Dental, P.A. recommends preventive care to patients of all ages. In general, Dr. Laubach and Dr. Eivens recommend that patients make appointments for checkups and teeth cleanings at least twice a year.
