Veneers and Laminates Q & A

Advanced Smiles Dental, P.A.

What are veneers and laminates?

Veneers, or laminates, are thin, durable materials that dentists apply to the teeth in order to hide cosmetic defects. Dr. Eivens and Dr. Laubach recommend veneers when the teeth appear too small for the patient, the teeth appear crooked, there are gaps between teeth, or the teeth have stains that are resistant to whitening. Dr. Eivens and Dr. Laubach also use veneers to improve the appearance of teeth with uneven surfaces, chips, or cracks.

How do the doctors apply veneers and laminates?

Before veneers are applied, Dr. Eivens or Dr. Laubach removes a very small amount of the tooth’s surface to make room for the veneer. The doctor also takes a custom impression of the teeth and sends it to the lab so that customized veneers are created. For this reason, veneers usually require 2 visits to the dentist.

During the first visit, Dr. Eivens or Dr. Laubach conservatively prepares the teeth, takes an impression, and applies the temporary veneers. During the second visit, the doctor removes the temporary veneers, cleans the tooth and bonds the permanent veneers to the teeth so it will last for many years.

How long will a veneer last?

With proper care, veneers from Advanced Smiles Dental, P.A. remain in place for many years. In order to protect veneers from damage, Dr. Eivens and Dr. Laubach encourage patients to practice good oral hygiene at home and continue receiving regular checkups and cleanings.

Can veneers be whitened?

Veneers won’t respond well to whitening like natural teeth. For this reason, patients schedule teeth whitening services before having veneers put in place. The veneers are matched to the color of the patient’s teeth after the whitening procedure. If you’re interested in veneers, call or schedule a custom appointment online with any of the trusted dentists at Advanced Smiles Dental, P.A. We gladly welcome new patients.
